Wondering how to become a PADI Divemaster? It is a clear, step-by-step journey that takes you from beginner to dive professional. Along the way you build skills, experience and confidence, and at the end you can guide certified divers around the world.
Hurghada is a great place to follow this path, with warm water, varied dive sites and plenty of diving all year. Want help planning your route? Tell us your current level in the form below.
Step 1: Become a Certified Diver
Start with the PADI Open Water Diver course (€400). This is your first certification and lets you dive to 18 metres with a buddy.
Step 2: Gain Experience with Advanced Open Water
Next, take the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course (€310). Five Adventure Dives, including Deep and Navigation, build your experience and certify you to 30 metres.
Step 3: Learn First Aid with EFR
Complete PADI Emergency First Response (€200) or another recognised CPR and first-aid course. Your training must be within the last 24 months when you start Rescue Diver and Divemaster.
Step 4: Become a Rescue Diver
The PADI Rescue Diver course (€500) teaches you to prevent and manage emergencies. It is a required step before Divemaster.
Step 5: Log Your Dives
You need at least 40 logged dives to start the Divemaster course and 60 to be certified. Fun dive packages are a cost-effective way to build experience. A 10-day package with 20 dives costs €368.
Step 6: Complete the Divemaster Course
The PADI Divemaster course costs €700 at Chloe’s Diving Center, with materials, certification and daily taxation paid separately. Training typically includes:
- Dive theory: physics, physiology, equipment, decompression and the environment
