How Deep Can You Dive with PADI Deep Diver?

How deep can you dive with PADI Deep Diver? Once certified, you can dive to a maximum of 40 metres, the limit for recreational scuba diving. That opens up deeper walls, wrecks and sites that are out of reach for Open Water and Advanced divers.

Below we compare depth limits for each PADI level and explain what it takes to dive safely at 40 metres. Want to train in Hurghada? Send us your dates in the form below.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver30 m

Junior divers have lower limits depending on age.

Why 40 Metres Is the Recreational Limit

Beyond 40 metres, the risks of nitrogen narcosis, rapid gas consumption and decompression obligations increase sharply. Diving deeper requires technical training, special equipment and different gas mixes, which are outside recreational diving.

What the Deep Diver Course Teaches

To dive safely between 30 and 40 metres, the PADI Deep Diver course covers:

  • Detailed dive planning and gas management
  • Recognising and managing nitrogen narcosis
  • Emergency decompression procedures
  • Buoyancy and ascent control at depth
  • Using reference lines and safety equipment

The course includes four deep training dives with a PADI Instructor.

Does Deeper Mean Better?

Not always. Many of the most colourful reefs around Hurghada are shallow. Depth is useful for specific goals, such as wreck diving or exploring deeper walls. A good diver chooses depth based on the dive plan, not just the certification.

Who Can Take the Course?

You must be at least 15 years old and certified as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, or Adventure Diver with the Deep Adventure Dive. Read more in our guide to the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course in Hurghada.

Price and Booking

At Chloe’s Diving Center, the PADI Deep Diver course costs €250 and usually takes about 2 days. See all prices on our diving prices in Hurghada page.
