The Short Answer: 2 to 3 Days
The course includes knowledge development, rescue exercises in the water and realistic rescue scenarios. Most students complete everything in 2 to 3 days.
| If you have… | Plan for |
| Advanced Open Water and recent EFR or first aid | 2–3 days |
| Advanced Open Water, no recent first aid | 3–4 days (EFR + Rescue Diver) |
Sample 3-Day Schedule
| Day | What you do |
| Day 1 | Theory: stress, accident management and rescue techniques; first in-water exercises |
| Day 2 | Rescue exercises at sea: tired diver, panicked diver, searching, bringing an unresponsive diver to the surface |
| Day 3 | Full rescue scenarios, final review and certification |
If you need EFR, it usually takes place the day before the Rescue Diver course.
What Affects the Duration?
- Theory before you arrive: completing reading early saves time.
- Your fitness and comfort: some exercises are physical, so we move at a safe pace.
- Weather: strong wind may change the order of in-water sessions.
- Group size: smaller groups often allow more practice time.
Fitting Rescue Diver into a Holiday
A week in Hurghada is enough for EFR and Rescue Diver, with time left for fun dives. Remember to keep at least 18 to 24 hours between your last dive and your flight.
A popular plan: EFR on day 2, Rescue Diver on days 3 to 5, fun dives on day 6, and a dive-free day before you fly.
Price
