Benefits of Nitrox Diving for Beginners: Should New Divers Learn It?
The benefits of Nitrox diving for beginners are often underestimated. Many new divers think Enriched Air Nitrox is only for experienced or technical divers, but the PADI Enriched Air course is open to anyone with an Open Water certification and aged 12 or over.
For newly certified divers on a dive holiday, Nitrox can make long boat days more enjoyable. Curious if it is right for you? Ask us in the form below.
1. More Time on Deeper Reefs and Wrecks
On dives between about 18 and 30 metres, Nitrox can give you longer no-decompression limits than air. For new Advanced Open Water divers exploring sites like the El Mina wreck, that means more time to look around instead of heading up early.
2. Smarter Repetitive Diving
On holidays you often make two or more dives a day. Because you absorb less nitrogen with Nitrox, it can help manage your no-decompression time across repeated dives, within the limits of your dive computer and plan.
3. You Learn to Plan Dives Better
The Nitrox course teaches you about gas, depth limits and dive computers. Many beginners say it helps them understand their computer and dive planning much better, which builds confidence on every dive.
4. It Is Quick and Simple
The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is one of the shortest PADI specialties and often takes about one day. At Chloe’s Diving Center it costs €190.
5. It Is a Popular Next Step
Nitrox is one of the most popular PADI specialties worldwide. Many dive centers and boats offer Nitrox fills, so your certification is useful far beyond Hurghada.
What Nitrox Is Not
To set the right expectations:
- Nitrox does not let you dive deeper. In fact, each mix has a shallower maximum depth than air.
- Nitrox does not replace safe diving habits such as safety stops and slow ascents.
- Nitrox requires you to analyse your gas and set your computer before each dive.
When Should a Beginner Take Nitrox?
| Your situation | Nitrox benefit |
| Just certified, mostly shallow reefs | Limited, but useful knowledge |
| Advanced Open Water, diving 18–30 m | Clear benefit for bottom time |
| Multi-day dive holiday | Helpful for repetitive dives |
| Planning wreck dives | Strong benefit within depth limits |
Many divers take Nitrox right after Advanced Open Water. Learn more on our PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course in Hurghada page and see all prices on our diving prices in Hurghada page.
