PADI Open Water Course Duration in Egypt: Choose the Plan That Fits Your Trip
The PADI Open Water course duration in Egypt is usually 3 to 4 days. But the exact time you spend depends on one important choice: how and where you complete the theory part of the course.
This guide compares three ways to plan your course so you can spend less time in the classroom and more time on the Red Sea. Want help choosing? Tell us your travel dates in the form below.
The Three Parts of the Course
Every PADI Open Water course has three parts, wherever you take it:
- Knowledge development: the theory, through reading, videos and short quizzes.
- Confined water dives: 5 practice sessions in calm, shallow water.
- Open water dives: 4 dives in the sea with your instructor.
How you organise the first part makes the biggest difference to your holiday time.
Option 1: Do Everything in Egypt
You arrive with no preparation and complete theory, practice and dives in Hurghada. This is the simplest option and usually takes about 4 days.
| Day | Plan |
| Day 1 | Theory and first confined water sessions |
| Day 2 | More theory and confined water practice |
| Day 3 | Open water dives 1 and 2 |
| Day 4 | Open water dives 3 and 4, final review |
Option 2: Study Before You Travel
If you complete the theory online before your holiday, you can often finish the in-water training in about 3 days. Ask us how to get started with the theory before you book your flights.
| Day | Plan |
| Day 1 | Knowledge review and confined water practice |
| Day 2 | Open water dives 1 and 2 |
| Day 3 | Open water dives 3 and 4 |
Option 3: Start at Home, Finish in Egypt
Some divers complete the theory and confined water training with a PADI center at home, then do only the 4 open water dives on holiday. This can take as little as 2 days in Egypt. Contact us before booking to check that we can complete your training.
Which Option Is Best?
- Want simplicity? Do everything in Egypt.
- Want more beach time? Study the theory before you travel.
- Very short trip? Ask about finishing your open water dives with us.
Important Timing Tips
- Keep at least 18 to 24 hours between your last dive and your flight.
- Do not start diving on your arrival day if you are tired.
- If you need a doctor’s approval, arrange it before you travel.
